Environmental advocates and stakeholders from Climalearnation and Women in Mining Nigeria recently convened for a virtual event titled ‘Our Power Our Planet’, marking the 2025 Global Earth Day Summit. The gathering served as a platform to amplify discussions on environmental action and sustainability challenges facing our planet.

Driving Collaborative Solutions for Environmental Challenges
The organizers emphasized that the event’s core purpose was to foster innovative, sustainable solutions through professional collaboration. Ruth Chigbo, Convener of Climalearnation, stated: “We believe the earth is more than just a planet—it’s our shared home.” She highlighted their commitment to inspiring collective action for a healthier, more resilient earth.
Expert Insights on Sustainability and Innovation
Guest speaker Peter Ayeni shared visions for environmental sustainability through technological innovation, while Ichor Joshua addressed the critical need for clean water access across Sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Janet Adeyemi reinforced the importance of persistent climate action advocacy.
Additional contributions came from panelists including Igede Felix, Areola Joshua, and Abdurrahmon Akesire, who presented research papers on environmental solutions. Young innovators Brandon Reynolds, Praneetha Monipi, and others showcased projects aligned with the event’s sustainability theme.
Recognizing Environmental Champions
The event culminated in awards for young sustainability leaders, with Theophilus Venn, Edesiri Ovuodeforen, and John Tosin Adekunle taking top honors. A sustainability quiz featuring Akesire Abdurrahmon engaged participants, while singer Tolulope Olatunji’s performance underscored art’s role in environmental awareness.
Organizers stressed that concrete actions from all global citizens are essential to ensure a sustainable future. The jury panel, moderated by Joy Kalu-Johnson, provided expert guidance throughout the discussions.
