Key Political Figures Rally Behind President’s Second-Term Bid
In a significant political development, governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), including prominent figures like Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, have officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Unified Support at APC National Summit
The endorsement was formally announced during the APC National Summit, where party governors expressed their strong backing for Tinubu’s second-term aspirations. The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), led by Chairman Hope Uzodinma, took the lead in this political move, with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani seconding the motion.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues at a press conference, Governor Uzodimma emphasized the governors’ collective support for Tinubu’s re-election campaign. The Imo State leader highlighted the administration’s achievements as the foundation for their endorsement.
Reasons Behind the Endorsement
Governor Uzodimma outlined several key factors driving the governors’ support, including:
- Successful implementation of economic reforms
- Significant infrastructure development
- Effective efforts to strengthen national unity
The governor stated: “For Nigeria to reach her destination faster in prosperity, the president should be adopted as our flag bearer for the 2027 presidential election, for a second term in office.”
Strategic Plan for 2027 Elections
Uzodimma also outlined the governors’ commitment to ensuring electoral success: “The governors produced by our All Progressives Congress are hereby charged to take responsibility to market our federal government policies, occupy the political space in their domains, and take responsibility for winning all elections in their states come 2027.”
Concluding his remarks, the Imo State governor formally moved the motion: “It is therefore my humble pleasure, with total humility to Almighty God, to move that this August assembly adopt and concur the position of progressive governors that Mr. President carries our flag in 2027 and governors take responsibility for delivering this mandate.”
