Dangote Group and Niger State Government Forge Multi-Billion Naira Agricultural Partnership
Boosting Commercial Agriculture in Nigeria
In a significant move to enhance commercial agriculture in Nigeria, the Dangote Group and the Niger State Government have entered into a multi-billion naira partnership. This collaboration aims to strengthen food security and economic growth through large-scale agricultural investments.
Key Investments in Rice Production
The Dangote Group has deployed substantial resources into its rice production infrastructure in Niger State, including participation in the Niger Food Initiative—a state-led agricultural development program supported by private sector players.
Fatima Wali Abdurrahman, Senior Special Adviser to the President and CEO of Dangote Group, confirmed that the company’s state-of-the-art rice mill in Wushishi is progressing steadily toward completion. Speaking at the 2025 Niger National Trade Fair in Minna, she stated:
“As part of our commitment to advancing agriculture, we plan to establish one of the largest rice mills here in Niger State.”

Economic and Employment Benefits
The 32 Metric Tonnes Per Hour (MTPH) rice mill, situated on a 30-hectare site, is expected to significantly boost local rice production while creating employment opportunities. Abdurrahman emphasized:
“This landmark project represents a significant step forward in bolstering the food security initiatives of the State. Upon its delivery, the mill will enhance local rice production, create jobs, and contribute to Nigeria’s agricultural development.”
Additionally, the project includes:
- A 5.8-megawatt captive power generation facility
- 32 silos with a storage capacity of 2,500 metric tons each
- Support for local farmers through inputs like fertilizer and seedlings
Government Support and Future Plans
Governor Umar Muhammed Bago, represented by Commissioner Aminu Suleiman Takuma, commended the Dangote Group and encouraged further investments in Niger State’s agricultural sector. The governor also announced plans to elevate the Niger Trade Fair to an international event.

Private Sector Engagement
Dr. Bisi Adeniyi, President of the Niger Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NCCIMA), urged private sector players to leverage the state’s vast arable land for agricultural investments.
Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Sabi Abdullahi, reiterated that commercial agriculture remains a priority in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic development agenda.
