Governor Namadi Praises Guri’s Grassroots Peace Initiative as Model for National Conflict Resolution
Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has commended the successful peacebuilding efforts between farmers and pastoralists in Guri Local Government Area, highlighting it as a blueprint for conflict resolution in Nigeria’s rural communities.
Community-Led Peace Efforts Lauded
Speaking at a peace durbar organized by Fulani community leader Lamido Gide during the state government’s “Gwamnati da Jama’a” engagement program, Governor Namadi emphasized that sustainable peace requires grassroots initiatives. He pledged his administration’s continued support for such community-driven reconciliation efforts across Jigawa State.

“I commend Lamido Gide and other traditional leaders for their dedication to reconciliation and peaceful coexistence. The progress witnessed here in Guri is a testament to what unity and dialogue can accomplish,” the governor stated.
Two Years of Sustained Peace
Lamido Gide revealed his motivation for spearheading the reconciliation effort stemmed from the need to restore harmony between Hausa farming communities and Fulani pastoralists in the area.

“For over two years now, we have not recorded any violent clashes between farmers and herders in Guri. Any disagreements that arise are swiftly resolved through mutual understanding and dialogue,” Gide disclosed.
Economic Benefits of Peace
The District Head of Guri, Malam Isma’ila Guri, reported significant economic improvements since the peace accord, with no incidents of farm vandalism or cattle route encroachments disrupting agricultural and commercial activities.

“The people of Guri have embraced peace, and we urge everyone to remain law-abiding and resolve any disputes amicably,” Malam Isma’ila Guri advised.
A National Model for Conflict Resolution
The Guri peace initiative has gained recognition as an effective grassroots solution to Nigeria’s persistent farmer-herder conflicts. Stakeholders are advocating for similar community-driven reconciliation models to be implemented in other conflict-prone areas across the country.
