Former Kwankwaso Ally Yunusa Dangwani Defects to APC in Kano
In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, Yunusa Adamu Dangwani, a former close associate of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and prominent Kano State political figure, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mass Defection Shakes Kano Politics
Dangwani announced his defection during a well-attended ceremony in Kano, where dozens of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members also crossed over to the APC. The event was led by Kano APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas and featured key stakeholders from the state chapter of the ruling party.
Dangwani Cites APC’s Strong Leadership
Speaking at the ceremony, Dangwani praised the APC’s structure and leadership, stating his decision was motivated by the party’s ability to deliver on its promises. “I am joining a party that has demonstrated the capacity to organize, mobilize, and lead with purpose,” he said. “My decision was guided by the urgent need to be part of a movement that can genuinely improve the lives of our people.”
Political Blow to Kwankwaso and NNPP
Political analysts view Dangwani’s defection as a significant setback for Kwankwaso and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), particularly in the crucial swing state of Kano. Dangwani’s close ties with Kwankwaso had previously made him a key player in the NNPP’s grassroots machinery.
APC Strengthens Position for 2027
APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas welcomed the new members, describing the influx as a major boost for the party’s 2027 ambitions. “This is a big day for our party,” Abbas stated. “We are strengthening our base with experienced leaders and loyal supporters who will be given equal opportunities to contribute and grow.”
The defection is expected to significantly reshape Kano’s political landscape as major parties begin preparations for the next election cycle.
