Newlywed Soldier Among Victims as Suspected Herdsmen Attack Benue Community

Deadly Nighttime Raid Leaves Multiple Casualties

Suspected herdsmen launched a brutal attack on Ikobi-Ochekwu community in Benue State’s Apa Local Government Area late Wednesday night, leaving several residents dead – including a soldier who had recently married.

The violent assault reportedly lasted several hours as armed attackers descended on the village under cover of darkness. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as the assailants fired indiscriminately at residents while setting homes ablaze.

Community in Mourning as Death Toll Rises

Local resident Ochofie recounted the terrifying ordeal to journalists, though the exact number of casualties remains unclear with many still unaccounted for. The attack has left the community in shock and mourning.

“In the early hours of Thursday, two more bodies were discovered in nearby Ijaha,” revealed a community source. “They were identified as Sani Ngbede and Aduba Paul Ogboyi.”

Authorities have yet to officially confirm the identities of all victims, including the slain soldier who was said to have recently celebrated his wedding. The military has not released a statement regarding the incident at time of reporting.

This latest violence adds to the growing security concerns in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region, where clashes between farmers and herders have become increasingly frequent.
