Global Program Calls for Sustained Efforts After Exit

The Challenge Initiative (TCI), a global program focused on accelerating family planning and reproductive health services, has called for the strengthening of birth spacing initiatives in Jigawa State to improve maternal and child health outcomes.

TCI, which implemented a two-year birth spacing program across seven local government areas in the state, emphasized the need to sustain the gains made before its scheduled exit in June.

Key Stakeholders Meet to Ensure Continuity

In a statement issued by TCI media focal person Ya’u Muhammad Sani, the organization urged participating LGAs to maintain the knowledge and strategies gained during the program.

“The meeting reinforced the commitment to strengthening birth spacing initiatives and enhancing long-term health outcomes in Jigawa state,” the statement noted.

The wrap-up meeting brought together key stakeholders including:

  • Local government directors
  • Health promotion officers
  • Focal persons
  • TCI teams from participating LGAs

The program was implemented in seven LGAs:

  • Birnin Kudi
  • Buji
  • Dutse
  • Gwaram
  • Jahun
  • Kiyawa
  • Ringim

Program Achievements and Future Goals

TCI collaborated with the Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and local stakeholders to implement evidence-based strategies that:
