National Assembly Commends Nyesom Wike’s Exceptional Performance as FCT Minister
Lawmakers Praise Transformative Leadership in Abuja
The leadership and members of the National Assembly have lauded the exceptional performance of Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The commendation came during Wike’s appearance before lawmakers to defend the N1.78 trillion FCT statutory budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year.
Senate Committee Chairman Applauds Budget Proposal
Senator Ibrahim Bomai, Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, praised Wike and FCT Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud for their outstanding achievements in a short period. Bomai expressed particular admiration for the FCT’s 2025 revenue and fiscal framework, noting it as one of the best budgets presented so far.
“This is the first time FCT is proposing to generate about N1.7 trillion,” Bomai said. “The N608 billion projected Internally Generated Revenue for 2025 also shows significant improvement.”
Cross-Party Recognition for Abuja’s Transformation
Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central, PDP) compared Abuja’s current status to major African cities like Johannesburg and Cairo, while urging improved security measures. Similarly, Senator Mohammed Ndume (Borno South, APC) acknowledged Wike’s visible impact, attributing the success to legislative support.
“Everybody that knows where Abuja was two years ago and what it is now knows that you have done well,” Ndume stated.
Budget Efficiency Earns Special Praise
Senator Osita Ozunaso (Imo West, APC) highlighted the budget’s efficient allocation, particularly the reduction in personnel costs by N21 billion and increased capital expenditure. Former Edo State Governor and current Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC) described Wike as “one of the best ministers under the APC administration” for prioritizing infrastructure over overhead costs.
House of Representatives Joins in Commendation
At the House of Representatives, Committee on FCT Chairman Rep. Muktar Betara and other lawmakers praised Wike’s dedication to implementing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through visible infrastructure development.
Earlier in his presentation, Minister Wike appealed for approval of the N1.78 trillion budget, with N1.28 trillion (72.3%) allocated to capital projects and N494.1 billion (27.7%) for recurrent expenditure.
