Opposition Coalition’s Plan for 2027

El-Rufai, now a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), revealed that while the opposition plans to send Tinubu “back to Lagos,” they intend to retain Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani in the next administration. He praised Tijani’s performance, stating: “Though we will still keep Bosun Tijani, we will still keep the minister because he is doing good work.”

The former governor explained his delayed arrival at the event: “They (the organising team) had to come without me because yesterday (Tuesday) at 8pm there was a very important meeting of the coalition we’re putting together to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos.”

Political Realignment and Opposition Movement

El-Rufai has emerged as a leading figure among opposition politicians working to form a broad coalition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). His political trajectory took a significant turn in March when he defected from the APC to join the SDP, signaling his opposition stance against the Tinubu administration.

The former governor’s comments highlight the growing opposition movement preparing for the 2027 general elections, with prominent politicians across party lines reportedly joining forces to challenge the current administration.
