NDLEA Seizes N3.4 Billion Worth of Drugs and 942 Explosives in Multi-State Operations
Massive Drug and Explosives Interception Across Nigeria
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant breakthroughs in its fight against drug trafficking and illicit substances, intercepting drugs worth over N3.4 billion and uncovering 942 explosives in coordinated operations across Rivers, Lagos, and Kaduna states.
Port Harcourt Ports Complex Bust
In a joint operation with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies, NDLEA operatives examined a watch-listed container at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, on April 29. The raid led to the seizure of:
- 2 million pills of tramadol (225mg)
- 163,000 bottles of codeine syrup
Lagos Drug Recovery Operation
In Lagos, NDLEA officers arrested suspect Olarenwaju Wahab at the Alaba Rago area of Ojo on April 29, recovering 1.5 million pills of a controlled opioid. Investigations traced the consignment to a residence in Victoria Garden City, Lekki, where the prime suspect, Obinna Kenneth, remains at large.
Kaduna Explosives Interception
During a routine patrol along the Kaduna-Zaria expressway on May 3, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle traveling from Nasarawa to Zamfara. A search revealed:
- 942 explosives concealed in a sack
The operation led to the arrest of 30-year-old Nura Sani Muhammad, also known as Nura Hariji.
International Drug Trafficking Bust
At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, NDLEA officials intercepted:
- 42 parcels of Canadian Loud (a potent cannabis strain)
The drugs were hidden in food tins aboard a British Airways flight from Canada. Three suspects, including the receiver Monsurat Lawson, were arrested between April 30 and May 3.
