APC Accuses Taraba Governor Kefas of Prioritizing Luxury Over Public Welfare
Opposition Criticizes Governor’s Spending as Second Anniversary Approaches
By Sylvanus Viashima, Jalingo
As Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas prepares to mark his second year in office on May 29, 2025, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched scathing criticism against his administration, accusing him of favoring personal luxury projects over public welfare initiatives.
Allegations of Misplaced Priorities
Alhaji Hassan Ardo Jika, former Nigerian Envoy to Trinidad and Tobago, claimed Governor Kefas has focused on projects benefiting himself and cabinet members while leaving residents in hardship. Despite government claims of limited funds, Jika alleges billions have been spent on unfinished projects.
“The governor prioritizes Suntai Airport in Jalingo for personal travel while abandoning critical infrastructure like the collapsed Namnai Bridge that affects ordinary citizens daily,” Jika stated.
Abandoned Public Projects
APC’s Rikwensi Muri highlighted several abandoned projects including:
- Jalingo Trade Fair reconstruction
- Jalingo Trailer Park
- Wukari International Yam Market
- Jalingo Abattoir
- Wukari Chinkai Road
- Jalingo Palliative Market
“Contractors have deserted these sites for over six months despite billions already spent,” Muri noted.
Government Response
Governor Kefas defended his record through Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Hon. Emmanuel Bello, who cited achievements including:
- Improved security
- Free education policy
- Prompt salary payments
- Road construction
- Agricultural support
- Healthcare improvements
Bello described the governor as governing with “humility, transparency, and deep love for the people.”
As the anniversary approaches, residents await to see which projects will be commissioned to mark the administration’s two-year milestone.
