Tobi Amusan Clocks Season’s Best in Diamond League Hurdles Showdown
Nigerian sprint star shows steady progress in China
World record holder Tobi Amusan continues to build momentum in her 2025 Diamond League campaign, securing fourth place in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Keqiao Diamond League meet in China on Saturday.
The Nigerian athlete clocked a season’s best time of 12.66 seconds – an improvement from her 12.74-second finish at the season-opening meet in Xiamen last week. This performance demonstrates Amusan’s steady progress as she prepares for major competitions later in the year.
Race Results and Competition
American sprinter Grace Stark claimed victory with a meeting record of 12.42 seconds, while Jamaica’s reigning world champion Danielle Williams took second place in 12.55 seconds. South Africa’s Marion Fourie completed the podium in third with 12.62 seconds.
Amusan, who set the current world record of 12.12 seconds in 2022, has been gradually working her way into competitive form this season. She began her campaign with a win in the 100m sprint at the Velocity Fest 16 in Jamaica before entering the Diamond League circuit.
Upcoming Challenges
The Nigerian star is scheduled to represent Team Nigeria at the 2025 World Athletics Relays on May 10-11 at the Guangdong Olympic Stadium in Guangzhou, China. Her improving form suggests she’s on track to challenge for medals at major events including the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo and the Diamond League Final in Zurich.
