Newlywed Soldier Among Victims as Suspected Herdsmen Attack Benue Community

Deadly Nighttime Assault Leaves Multiple Casualties

Suspected herdsmen launched a deadly attack on Ikobi-Ochekwu community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State late Wednesday night, killing several residents including a newlywed soldier.

The violent assault lasted several hours, with attackers storming the village under cover of darkness. According to local resident Ochofie, the assailants fired sporadically at residents while setting houses ablaze.

Ongoing Search for Missing Persons

The exact death toll remains unclear as many community members are still unaccounted for following the attack. Two additional bodies were discovered Thursday morning in nearby Ijaha, identified as Sani Ngbede and Aduba Paul Ogboyi.

Authorities have yet to officially confirm the identities of all victims, including the slain soldier who reportedly recently married. The attack has left the community in mourning as residents struggle to account for missing family members.
