NDLEA Nabs Two Suspects with Massive Cannabis Haul in Kogi and Kaduna

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has scored significant victories in Nigeria’s war against drug trafficking with two major interceptions in Kogi and Kaduna States. The operations resulted in the seizure of substantial quantities of cannabis sativa, locally known as skunk, and the arrest of two suspects.
Coordinated Operations Yield Results
In a carefully planned operation on Thursday, July 10, NDLEA operatives made their first breakthrough along the busy Okene-Lokoja Expressway in Kogi State. Agents intercepted Sabiu Bala, who was transporting an astonishing 316.6 kilograms of the banned substance.
Simultaneously, in a separate intelligence-led operation in Kaduna State, authorities arrested 38-year-old Haladu Suleiman in the Gubuchi area of Ikara Local Government Area. Suleiman was found with 58.805 kilograms of skunk in his possession.
NDLEA’s Continued Crackdown on Drug Trafficking
The agency confirmed that both arrests were part of its ongoing strategy to disrupt the supply chain of illicit drugs across Nigeria. “These operations demonstrate our commitment to dismantling drug networks at every level,” stated an NDLEA spokesperson.
According to officials, both suspects are currently in custody awaiting prosecution as investigations continue into their drug trafficking operations. The NDLEA has emphasized that these arrests represent just part of their broader campaign against narcotics distribution in the country.
Public Cooperation Crucial in Anti-Drug Efforts
The anti-narcotics agency has renewed its call for public support in its operations. “We urge citizens to continue providing timely information that can lead to more arrests and seizures,” the spokesperson added, highlighting the importance of community involvement in combating drug-related crimes.
These latest seizures come amid growing concerns about drug abuse in Nigeria, particularly among youth populations. The NDLEA has intensified its operations nationwide, targeting both major traffickers and local distributors.
Impact on Nigeria’s Drug Trade
With a combined total of nearly 375 kilograms of cannabis intercepted in these two operations alone, authorities believe they have dealt a significant blow to drug distribution networks operating in northern and central Nigeria. The NDLEA estimates the street value of the seized drugs runs into millions of naira.
Drug enforcement experts note that the Okene-Lokoja route has become increasingly important for traffickers moving substances between Nigeria’s northern and southern regions, making these interceptions particularly significant.
As the NDLEA continues its crackdown, officials promise more operations targeting drug cartels and their distribution networks across all states of the federation.
