Osun Governor Relaxes Curfew in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun After Improved Security
Governor Adeleke Eases Restrictions as Peace Returns to Warring Communities
Osogbo, Nigeria – Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the relaxation of curfew hours in the previously conflict-ridden communities of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun following positive security assessments. The new curfew will now run from 12 midnight to 4:00 am daily, effective Saturday, July 19, 2025.
The decision comes after security chiefs confirmed improved stability in the region, where violent clashes between the neighboring communities had previously necessitated stricter measures. The original curfew, imposed from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am, had been in place to curb hostilities.
Government Commends Community Leaders for Peace Efforts
In a statement released by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Kolapo Alimi, Governor Adeleke expressed appreciation to traditional rulers including the Olufon of Ifon, Olobu of Ilobu, and Elerin of Erin for their cooperation in restoring peace.
“The Governor acknowledges the critical role played by community leaders in de-escalating tensions,” Alimi stated. “Their commitment to dialogue has been instrumental in creating the conditions for this curfew relaxation.”
However, the Governor issued a stern warning against any resurgence of violence, emphasizing that the government would take decisive action against individuals attempting to disrupt the fragile peace.
Boundary Committee Urged to Accelerate Resolution
The statement also called on the 100-member Boundaries Resolution Committee to expedite its work in establishing clear demarcations between the communities. The longstanding territorial disputes have been identified as a root cause of the conflicts.
“We urge the committee to prioritize their mandate,” the Commissioner conveyed. “A lasting solution to these boundary issues will prevent future outbreaks of violence.”
Security Measures Remain in Place
While celebrating the progress made, officials emphasized that security personnel would maintain a visible presence in the area to ensure compliance with the modified curfew and prevent any security breaches.
Residents have welcomed the relaxed measures but expressed cautious optimism about maintaining the peace. Local business owners particularly appreciate the extended hours allowing for more economic activity.
Path to Lasting Peace
The state government has outlined a multipronged approach to sustain the peace, including:
- Continued dialogue between community leaders
- Accelerated boundary demarcation process
- Community peacebuilding initiatives
- Economic development programs for the region
Security analysts suggest that while the curfew relaxation indicates progress, the true test will come in maintaining stability without restrictive measures. The government has pledged ongoing support and monitoring to ensure the peace holds.
