NDLEA Seizes N3.4 Billion Worth of Illicit Drugs in Nationwide Crackdown

Major Drug Busts Across Multiple States

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted illicit drugs valued at over N3.4 billion in a series of coordinated operations across Rivers, Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Anambra, Edo, and Niger States.

Port Harcourt and Lagos Operations

A joint operation involving NDLEA, Customs, and other security agencies at the Onne Ports Complex in Port Harcourt led to the seizure of two million pills of tafrodol and 163,000 bottles of codeine syrup on April 29. In Lagos, operatives recovered 1.5 million pills of opioids from Olarenwaju Wahab, with the consignment traced to a residence in Victoria Garden City, Lekki.

Airport Interception of Concealed Drugs

At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), officers intercepted 42 parcels of Canadian Loud concealed in tins of chocolate, Milo beverage, and kidney beans onboard a British Airways flight from Canada.

“NDLEA operatives at the import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos have intercepted 42 parcels of Canadian Loud, a strong strain of cannabis weighing 20kg, concealed in tins of chocolate, milo beverage, white kidney beans and dark red kidney beans packaged as part of cargos that came into the Lagos airport onboard a British Airways flight from Canada.”

Arrests and Additional Seizures

Three suspects, including the receiver, Monsurat Ewawunmi Lawson, were arrested in connection with the shipment. Meanwhile, Bobby Morris Osas was apprehended at the Lagos airport with over 8,000 pills of tramadol while attempting to board a flight to Italy.

In Kaduna, 942 explosives were discovered hidden in a vehicle, leading to the arrest of Nura Sani Muhammad. Similar arrests and seizures occurred in Anambra, Edo, and Niger states.

NDLEA Chairman Commends Operatives

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the agency’s operatives for their diligence and ongoing commitment in combating drug trafficking and abuse nationwide.
