NDDC Warns Nigerian Scholarship Applicants Against Fake Verification Exercise in Lagos
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued an urgent warning to applicants of its Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Programme about a fraudulent verification scheme circulating in Lagos.
Fraudulent Scheme Uncovered
In an official statement released on May 4, 2025, by Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs at the NDDC, the Commission alerted the public about scam emails originating from nddcregistry@gmail.com.
“The attention of the Niger Delta Development Commission has been drawn to series of fraudulent emails and messages being sent to applicants of the Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Programme,” the statement read.
The fraudulent communication, which claims to be from the Commission’s ‘Board Registry,’ invites unsuspecting applicants to a fake document verification exercise scheduled for May 19-21, 2025, at 30 Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
NDDC Denounces the Scam
The Commission strongly disassociated itself from the fraudulent activity, emphasizing that all official communications regarding the scholarship program are conducted exclusively through its official portal at http://scholarship.nddc.gov.ng.
“We want to clarify that the NDDC is not associated with this fraudulent selection process and exercise,” the statement emphasized.
Public Advisory
The NDDC issued important warnings to scholarship applicants:
- Disregard any unsolicited messages requesting money or sensitive information
- Report suspicious communications to authorities immediately
- Verify all information through official NDDC channels only
Thompson-Wakama urged the public to contact the Commission through its official channels for legitimate inquiries about the scholarship program.
