What Will Determine Buhari’s Support Between Tinubu and Atiku in 2027 – Analyst Explains

Abuja – Political analyst Kelly Agaba, coordinator of the Citizens Coalition, has revealed key factors that will influence former President Muhammadu Buhari’s support in the 2027 presidential election between Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar.
Buhari’s Decision Hinges on Followers’ Movement
In an exclusive interview with Legit.ng, Agaba explained that Buhari’s political stance will largely depend on where his loyalists throw their support. The analyst noted that about 90% of Buhari’s followers are currently backing the coalition formed by Nasir el-Rufai and Atiku Abubakar.
“Given the current dynamics, it seems Buhari’s stance will be influenced by his followers. A significant majority are investing their trust and resources in the coalition engineered by Nasir el-Rufai.”
Northern Influence Could Decide 2027 Election
Agaba emphasized Buhari’s substantial influence in Northern Nigeria, suggesting his endorsement could determine the election outcome. The APC has reportedly been making efforts to regain Buhari’s support, recognizing his political capital.

Opposition Coalition Gains Momentum
The political landscape has seen significant developments with former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai defecting from APC to SDP and joining forces with Atiku Abubakar. Their recent visit to Buhari’s Kaduna residence has sparked speculation about the former president’s potential alignment.
Tinubu Warned About Buhari Factor
Senator Ali Ndume has cautioned President Tinubu to be concerned about Buhari’s position, noting the former president’s strong following among Northern voters. Ndume described Buhari’s supporters as particularly devoted, which could significantly impact the 2027 elections.
