Governor Zulum Calls for Prayer and Unity

In response to the escalating security challenges in Borno State, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has called on residents to observe a day of fasting and prayer this Monday. The governor made the announcement during a statewide broadcast on Saturday, emphasizing the need for divine intervention to restore peace in the region.

Strengthening Security Measures

Governor Zulum revealed that his administration is collaborating with the federal government to enhance security operations. “We are working on comprehensive strategies to strengthen our security architecture, improve intelligence sharing, and equip our security forces with the necessary tools,” he stated.

The governor also pledged to bolster community-based security initiatives, including strengthening volunteer forces like the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), hunters, and vigilantes. He warned against any form of collaboration with armed groups, describing them as “our collective enemy.”

Federal Government’s Commitment

Zulum reassured residents that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security chiefs have promised to address the security challenges decisively. “The Federal Government has given us assurances that they will do everything possible to end the current insecurity in our state,” he said.

Addressing Water Scarcity and Criminal Activities

The governor also addressed the water crisis affecting Maiduguri and surrounding areas, attributing it to flood damage from September 2024. He assured residents that restoration efforts are underway and appealed for patience.

Regarding rising crime rates in urban areas, Zulum announced the reconstitution of the Anti-Social Vices Committee to combat violent crimes. “We will not allow criminal elements to destabilize our progress,” he affirmed.

Call for Collective Action

Zulum concluded by urging all stakeholders – traditional rulers, religious leaders, and citizens – to unite in restoring peace. “With unity, perseverance and faith, we shall overcome these challenges,” he said, while also commiserating with families of fallen security personnel.
