APC Ward Chairman Killed by Kidnappers in Ondo State After Failed Ransom Negotiation

Tragic Abduction and Murder

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State is mourning the loss of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, Chairman of Ifon Ward 5 in Ose Local Government Area, who was brutally killed after being kidnapped.

Details of the Incident

The abduction occurred around 10 pm on Monday in Ifon town as Adepoyigi was parking his car at home. Kidnappers initially demanded a N100 million ransom, but after the family managed to raise N5 million, the criminals rejected the amount and escalated their demands.

Two couriers sent to deliver the partial payment were held hostage, with the kidnappers demanding an additional N30 million. Tragically, while the two volunteers were eventually released, Adepoyigi was executed by his captors.

Local Government Reacts

Mr. Clement Kolapo Ojo, Chairman of Ose Local Government, confirmed the tragic development in an official statement. Through his Chief Press Secretary Oluwaseun Ayomitan Ogunniyi, he expressed deep sorrow over the rising insecurity in the region.

“While we are grateful that the two volunteers have now regained their freedom, it is deeply saddening and utterly painful that the life of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi was brutally cut short by his captors.”

Call for Government Action

The council boss urged the federal government to support Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration in combating banditry and criminal activities. He highlighted the alarming pattern of abductions occurring at residents’ homes, signaling a dangerous escalation of insecurity.

The statement continued: “This pattern of brazen abductions confirms that insecurity has taken a dangerous and intolerable dimension in our community.”

Community in Mourning

The local government leadership and residents are united in grief, remembering Adepoyigi’s dedication to party progress and grassroots development. The incident follows another recent kidnapping attempt in the area, underscoring the urgent need for improved security measures.
