Major Infrastructure Projects Get Green Light

The Yobe State Executive Council has given its approval for ₦2.8 billion in funding for key infrastructure projects across the state. The decision, announced after Wednesday’s council meeting, includes significant investments in market development, agricultural support, and government office complexes.

Market Development Takes Center Stage

Among the approved projects, ₦2,787,625,946.89 has been allocated for the construction of Machina Modern Market, while an additional ₦3,015,000,625.00 was approved as a variation for the ongoing Geidam Modern Market project. These developments aim to boost local commerce and create modern trading spaces for residents.

Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, revealed these approvals during a press briefing following the council meeting. The session was chaired by Deputy Governor Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, who commended Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration for its focus on economic development initiatives.

Transportation Infrastructure Receives Boost

The council also ratified a ₦6.1 billion allocation for establishing a Central Motor Park in Damaturu, the state capital. This major transportation hub is expected to modernize the state’s public transit system and improve commuter experiences.

Additionally, ₦248.7 million was approved for the first phase of remodeling and upgrading the Yobe Line Terminus in Damaturu, further enhancing the state’s transportation infrastructure.

Government Office Complexes and Agricultural Support

In a move to streamline government operations, the council approved ₦1.77 billion for constructing office complexes to house five key agencies:

  • Bureau for Public Procurement
  • Fiscal Responsibility Board
  • Ease of Doing Business
  • Agency for Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion
  • Bureau of Statistics

A separate ₦962.7 million was allocated for the Yobe Investment Company Ltd. office building, reinforcing the state’s commitment to economic development.

Agricultural and Healthcare Investments

Recognizing agriculture as the backbone of Yobe’s economy, supporting 85% of its population, the council approved ₦3.8 billion for agricultural inputs to support dry season farming. This initiative aligns with Governor Buni’s agricultural revitalization program aimed at boosting food security.

The healthcare sector received ₦1.43 billion for construction and upgrades across various health facilities and training institutions. Commissioner Bego highlighted the administration’s healthcare achievements, noting that Yobe has received national recognition and awards for its healthcare improvements.

Leadership Commends Progress

Deputy Governor Gubana praised the Executive Council members for their teamwork and urged continued collaboration to drive the state’s development agenda forward. The approvals reflect Governor Buni’s administration’s commitment to infrastructure development across multiple sectors.

These projects come as part of broader efforts to stimulate economic growth, improve public services, and create employment opportunities throughout Yobe State.
