Presidential Intervention

President Bola Tinubu convened an emergency security meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following a surge in violent attacks across several states. The closed-door session lasted several hours with top security officials in attendance.

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu briefed reporters afterward, stating: “Mr President is insisting and working very hard to ensure we have peace, security, and stability in our country. He is deeply concerned and insisted that enough is enough.”

The meeting included the Chief of Defence Staff, Director General of DSS, Deputy Inspector General of Police, and other senior security officials. While specific resolutions weren’t disclosed, Ribadu confirmed the President issued new directives to address the security crisis.

Governors Convene on Security Crisis

Meanwhile, governors of all 36 states gathered in Abuja ahead of a National Economic Council meeting, with security expected to dominate discussions. The forum was set to revisit the contentious issue of state police, which received unanimous support from states in December 2024.

Military Response in Kwara

Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede has given troops one month to eliminate a newly-emerged terrorist group operating in Kwara State’s Kaiama and Baruten areas. Addressing soldiers at Sobi Barracks in Ilorin, Oluyede warned: “We will not allow a repeat of the Boko Haram insurgency elsewhere in the country.”

Zamfara Under Siege

Bandits launched coordinated attacks across Zamfara State on Tuesday, leaving multiple casualties:

• Early morning assault on Kaiwa Namba Village left several dead and others abducted
• Over 100 armed bandits attacked Bawa Ganga Village, injuring a police officer in ensuing gun battle
• Separate ambush killed two people, including a Community Protection Guard member

Security forces have deployed reinforcements to affected areas to restore order and prevent further attacks.
