President Tinubu Flags Off Reconstruction of Vital Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Highway

Key Infrastructure Project to Boost Northern Nigeria’s Economy

President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the reconstruction of the crucial Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano federal highway, a vital transportation artery that serves as the economic lifeline for Northern Nigeria. The project commencement ceremony took place in Jere, Kagarko Local Government Area.

A Long-Awaited Infrastructure Upgrade

Governor Uba Sani, representing President Tinubu at the event, emphasized the road’s strategic importance as it connects the Federal Capital Territory to over 12 states across three northern geopolitical zones. The governor lamented years of neglect that had turned the highway into a death trap while stifling regional economic growth.

“This is the busiest road in northern Nigeria and the second busiest nationwide after the Lagos-Ibadan expressway,” Governor Sani stated. “For too long, our people have suffered the consequences of its deterioration.”

Project Benefits and Security Improvements

The reconstruction is expected to deliver multiple benefits:

  • Creation of thousands of job opportunities
  • Enhanced security along the corridor
  • Improved transportation efficiency
  • Economic revitalization for surrounding communities

Governor Sani credited improved security measures for making the project feasible, praising National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu for implementing effective strategies that have reduced criminal activities along the route.

Project Specifications and Timeline

Works Minister Senator David Umahi provided key details about the ambitious infrastructure project:

  • Total length: 700 kilometers
  • Construction material: Concrete-reinforced pavement
  • Completion timeline: 14 months

Modern Features and Future Projects
