Presidency Disowns 2027 Campaign Billboards for Tinubu’s Re-election
Premature Campaign Sparks Official Response
The Presidency has officially distanced itself from a series of political billboards promoting President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 general elections, labeling the advertisements as premature and unauthorized.
Spokesperson Expresses Concern
Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s spokesperson, issued a statement on Sunday expressing dismay over the increasing appearance of such billboards in major cities, particularly Abuja and Kano.
“Worth noting is that some of these billboards with pictures of the President and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, are springing up in Abuja and Kano in particular,” Onanuga stated.
Violation of Electoral Laws
While acknowledging the support of loyal followers, Onanuga emphasized that neither President Tinubu nor Vice President Shettima endorses any campaign that violates electoral laws. He described the early campaign as potentially harmful to the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
No Official Authorization
“Until INEC sets the timetable for the 2027 elections, the President has not authorized any group to launch a campaign via billboards, print, digital, or broadcast media,” Onanuga clarified.
Focus on Nation-Building
The Presidency reiterated its commitment to governance priorities, including economic revitalization, infrastructure development, and national security. Onanuga stressed that Tinubu would only announce his political plans once INEC officially initiates the 2027 election process.
Warning to Campaign Organizers
Onanuga issued a stern warning to individuals and groups funding the unauthorized billboard campaigns, demanding an immediate halt to the nationwide deployment of promotional materials.
