Plateau Wedding Attack: Police Confirm Six Suspects Remain at Large as Investigation Concludes

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that six suspects connected to the brutal murder of wedding travelers in Mangun community remain fugitives, despite significant progress in the investigation.

Police Commissioner Provides Case Update

State Police Commissioner Emmanuel Adesina disclosed this development during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Jos. The briefing aimed to update the public on the concluded investigation into the June 2024 attack that shocked the nation.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The horrific attack occurred when a group of 32 wedding guests traveling from Basawa community in Kaduna State to Kwa community in Qua’an Pan LGA were ambushed. The victims, including men, women, and children, were en route to a wedding ceremony in an 18-seater bus when assailants struck, leaving 13 dead and many injured.

Legal Proceedings Against Arrested Suspects

Commissioner Adesina revealed that police have made significant progress in the case:

  • 22 suspects initially arrested in connection with the attack
  • 20 adult suspects arraigned before State High Court 10 in Jos
  • 2 juvenile suspects handled separately due to their age

The charged suspects face multiple counts including criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire, armed robbery, and culpable homicide. Presiding Judge Boniface Ngyon has remanded the defendants and adjourned the case to October 13, 2025.

Manhunt for Remaining Suspects

Despite these arrests, Commissioner Adesina confirmed that six suspects remain at large. “Our command will continue intensive manhunt operations until all perpetrators are brought to justice,” he stated emphatically during the briefing.

The Commissioner reassured Plateau residents of the police’s dedication to resolving the case: “The Command under my leadership is doing everything within our constitutional powers to ensure all perpetrators face the full weight of the law.”
