PDP Senators Deny Party Collapse, Confirm 2027 Election Preparations
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senate caucus has firmly dismissed rumors of the party’s imminent collapse, asserting its continued strength despite recent defections. The party is actively restructuring in preparation for the 2027 general elections, according to key leaders.
PDP Remains Strong Despite Challenges
Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro addressed journalists on Tuesday following a plenary session, describing the party’s current challenges as normal democratic processes. He emphasized that the PDP is far from disintegration and is instead focused on reconciliation and revitalization.

Strategic Restructuring Underway
“Contrary to rumors making the rounds that the PDP has collapsed, the party has not collapsed,” Moro stated. “Even here in the Senate, we still have former governors serving under the PDP platform who have not defected. The party remains strong.”
The senator revealed that strategic activities are being implemented to reposition the party for the 2027 elections. As part of these efforts, a reconciliation committee has been formed under the leadership of former Senate President and Kwara State Governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
Opposition Unity Talks Ongoing
Regarding speculation about a potential coalition between former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, Moro described such developments as positive. He confirmed that discussions about opposition unity are actively underway.
“There’s nothing wrong with that development. Conversations are ongoing, and building a coalition is being considered as we prepare for the next elections,” Moro explained.
The PDP leadership reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its role as Nigeria’s leading opposition party, dismissing suggestions that recent defections signal the party’s demise.
