73,844 Candidates Absent from 2025 Mock UTME – JAMB Reports
Low Turnout Despite Registration
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that 73,844 candidates failed to appear for the 2025 mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), despite completing registration.
Examination Participation Statistics
In an official statement released on Sunday, JAMB’s spokesperson Fabian Benjamin disclosed:
- 200,115 candidates initially registered interest
- 2 candidates later withdrew
- 200,113 final registered candidates
- 73,844 absentees on exam day
- 88 candidates failed biometric verification
- 126,181 candidates successfully took the test
Results Availability
Results for 115,735 candidates are currently available, while 10,446 results remain under processing and will be released shortly.
Purpose of Mock UTME
Benjamin emphasized that the mock examination serves dual purposes:
- Testing new examination innovations
- Helping candidates familiarize themselves with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) environment
“This initiative has successfully achieved its objectives over the years, addressing noted lapses and equipping candidates with valuable experience for the main examination,” the board stated.
Technical Challenges and New Features
JAMB acknowledged experiencing some technical delays during the mock test, attributing these to new features being implemented for the 2025 main UTME. The board expressed regret for any inconvenience while emphasizing these enhancements aim to improve examination integrity.
Upcoming Meeting with Institutions
The Board announced that JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede will convene with heads of newly established tertiary institutions on April 14, 2025 to discuss admission plans.
How to Check Results
Participants can access their mock UTME results by sending “MOCKRESULT” via SMS to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number registered for the examination.
