Army Chief Orders Troops to Flush Out Bandits in Kwara, Niger Within One Month
Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede Issues Stern Directive
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has issued a one-month ultimatum to Nigerian Army troops to eliminate bandits terrorizing communities in Kwara and Niger States. The directive was given during his address at the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, Kwara State.
Zero Tolerance for Insurgency Expansion
Oluyede emphasized that the Nigerian Army will not allow the insurgency plaguing the North-East to spread to the North-Central region. He stated, “No single part of Nigeria’s territory will be allowed to be taken by insurgents, whether they are bandits, Boko Haram, or any other group.”
One-Month Deadline to Secure Baruten, Kaiama, and Kainji Forest
After inspecting a military guard of honor, the Army Chief declared, “I’m giving you one month to recover all territories in Baruten, Kaiama, and Kainji forest. These areas must be fully secured within this timeframe.” He warned that no insurgent should remain in Nigeria’s borders after the deadline.
Commitment to Troop Welfare
Oluyede also pledged improved welfare for soldiers, including:
- 100,000 uniforms distributed monthly
- N1 billion monthly allocation for soldiers’ feeding
- Enhanced accommodation and education facilities
He encouraged soldiers to pursue professional development, saying, “I want to see soldiers become doctors, engineers, and other professionals.”
Recent Security Threats in Kwara
The directive follows recent attacks by a group identified as Mahmuda in Kaiama and Baruten LGAs. Additionally, seven people were killed in Ilesha Baruba, Baruten LGA, on Monday by unidentified assailants.
