Ife Development Board Calls for Urgent Security Reforms After APC Chieftain’s Death
IDB Mourns Slain APC Director, Demands Action Against Kidnappers
The Ife Development Board (IDB) has urged the Federal Government to overhaul its security strategy against kidnappers, bandits, and terrorists to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework.
This appeal came in a Friday statement by IDB President Gbenga Adefaye, former President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors and ex-Managing Editor of Vanguard Newspapers. The statement followed the tragic killing of Kunle Adeniji, APC’s Director of Administration and former Chairman of Ife Central Local Government, by kidnappers.
A Wake-Up Call for National Security
Adefaye described Adeniji’s death as a stark reminder of Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, emphasizing the urgent need for leadership to reassess counter-terrorism measures against criminals destabilizing the nation.
The current Provost of the Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ) also demanded that security agencies apprehend Adeniji’s killers and ensure they face justice for their crimes.
Community in Mourning
The IDB expressed profound grief over the loss of Adeniji, whom they remembered as a committed public servant and community leader before his abduction and murder.
“Like his family and associates, we held onto hope and prayers for his safe return after his traumatic ordeal,” Adefaye stated. “Receiving news of his death has plunged our community into darkness.”
In honor of Adeniji’s contributions to Ife’s development, the IDB declared a three-day mourning period, suspending all activities. “As we grieve this shocking loss, we celebrate his legacy of service, leadership, and dedication to community and national progress,” Adefaye concluded.
