NITDA Commissions State-of-the-Art National Cybersecurity Centre at Bayero University Kano

Nigeria Strengthens Cybersecurity Infrastructure
In a landmark development for Nigeria’s digital security, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) inaugurated a cutting-edge National Cybersecurity Centre at Bayero University, Kano (BUK) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

KANO FOCUS reports that this world-class facility is designed to serve as a national hub for digital defense, cybersecurity innovation, and talent development in Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem.
A Strategic National Asset

NITDA Director-General Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi described the center as “a national asset” during the commissioning ceremony. Represented by Dr. Jide Ajayi from the Zonal Coordination Department, Abdullahi emphasized the facility’s strategic importance:
“This is not just the unveiling of a facility, it is the activation of a knowledge-driven platform designed to equip our nation with the tools, talent and infrastructure required to safeguard our digital space and empower the next generation of cybersecurity experts.”
Aligning with National Development Goals
The DG noted that the center directly supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Federal Ministry of Communications’ Strategic Blueprint. It will serve as:
- A collaboration hub for government, academia, and industry
- A center for cutting-edge cybersecurity research
- A training facility for hands-on digital security education
- A resource center for regional and national cybersecurity partners
