The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has called on public relations professionals in Nigeria to actively participate in ongoing government reforms aimed at improving the nation’s global reputation and attracting foreign investments.

Key Announcements at Nigerian Public Relations Week 2025

Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the Nigerian Public Relations Week 2025 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Minister Idris highlighted the economic potential of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The event’s theme, “Harnessing Public Relations for Nigerian Economic Relations,” emphasized the crucial role of PR in national development.

The Minister revealed significant government investment plans, stating: “We have allocated N1.5 trillion to revamp the Bank of Agriculture within the first two years of President Tinubu’s administration.” This move aims to stimulate agricultural growth and economic diversification.

Leadership and Communication Challenges

Dr. Ike Neliaku, President and Chairman-in-Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), addressed critical communication gaps in national leadership. “Lack of effective communication is a major problem of leadership in Nigeria,” he stated, while advocating for collaborative efforts to build national prosperity.

In a significant announcement, Dr. Neliaku revealed that Nigeria will host the 2026 World Public Relations Forum, positioning the country as a global hub for PR professionals.

State Government Support for PR Initiatives

Representing Akwa Ibom State Governor, Deputy Governor Sen. Akon Eyakenyi emphasized the strategic importance of public relations in economic development. “Public relations practitioners can work collaboratively with the larger media to market our nation,” she noted, expressing confidence in the sector’s ability to positively project Nigeria’s image.

Honors and New Initiatives

The event featured posthumous awards to three distinguished Nigerians, including the late LOC Chairman of NPRW25, Dr. Uduak Obot, recognizing their contributions to national reputation management.

A major development was the inauguration of the Nigeria Reputation Management Group, with notable appointments including:

  • Dr. John Momoh as Chairman
  • Muhammed Kudu Abubakar as Inaugural Secretary
  • Bashiru Adeniyi, CGC, as Vice Chairman
