As reported by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) via its Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, operatives in Lagos uncovered a sophisticated smuggling attempt on Tuesday, 26th May 2026, at a courier company. High-potency illicit drugs, including 3 kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy) pills, were discovered carefully concealed inside water purifier machines shipped from the Netherlands.
In a separate operation in Kaduna State on Sunday, 24th May, NDLEA officers arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, along with another suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, 38, after seizing 100 jumbo bags of skunk (cannabis) weighing 1,246 kilograms from their home in the Gonin Gora area. On the same day, a patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna highway near Jere intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, who was transporting 380 rounds of military-grade RLA 7.62mm ammunition destined for Katsina State. The suspect and ammunition were handed over to the appropriate security agency.
Further operations in Niger State on Wednesday, 27th May, led to the recovery of 457 kilograms of skunk from a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso LGA, and the arrest of Godwin Zakka, 46. In Enugu State, a commercial vehicle was intercepted on the Onitsha/Enugu expressway on Thursday, 28th May, yielding 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 grams of bromazepam. Suspect James Maigari Wisdom was arrested.
NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended the officers for their supply reduction efforts and ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities across schools and communities.
