Significant Progress in Pilgrim Airlift Operations
In an official statement released on Wednesday, NAHCON’s Assistant Director of Information and Publication, Fatima Usara, revealed that 32,549 intending pilgrims have been airlifted through 79 flights since operations commenced on May 9.
State-by-State Completion Status
Several states have already completed their airlift operations:
- Adamawa and Plateau States have finalized their pilgrim deployments
- Bauchi and Gombe States each have only 30 pilgrims remaining to be transported
- Federal Capital Territory and Jigawa State expected to conclude operations by Wednesday
- Kwara State’s remaining 137 pilgrims will join a Max Air flight from Kano
Scheduled Final Airlift Operations
The Commission announced that Benue State pilgrims will join their counterparts from the South-South region for a combined flight on May 23, marking the final phase of airlift operations from that area.
Operational Success and Challenges
NAHCON emphasized that despite occasional delays, no flights have been cancelled throughout the airlift process. The delays were strategically implemented to facilitate proper hotel clean-up and decongestion in Madinah.
“Such cleanup procedures are standard operational routines following the vacating of rooms during the Hajj season,” Usara explained, addressing potential concerns about the delays.
Appreciation and Commitment
The Commission expressed gratitude to pilgrims and communities for their patience and support, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a smooth Hajj experience for all participants.
