Reps Tour 1MW Solar Mini-Grid in Kano, Hail Project as Energy Sector Game-Changer

The House of Representatives Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation has conducted an inspection tour of Bagaja Renewables’ 1MWp interconnected solar mini-grid in Zawaciki, Kano, as part of its oversight functions.
Assessing Private Sector Role in Power Development
Led by Chairman Rt. Hon. Engr. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, the committee visited the facility to evaluate private sector participation in Nigeria’s power infrastructure development following the country’s power sector reforms.
Strategic Approach to Power Generation
Chairman Chidari described the solar project as “a strategic and innovative approach to power generation and supply,” emphasizing its significance in Nigeria’s energy landscape.
“This project clearly illustrates the potential of public-private partnerships in addressing Nigeria’s longstanding electricity challenges,” Chidari stated.
Advocating Renewable Energy Solutions
The committee chairman called for increased stakeholder support for renewable energy projects, highlighting their potential to decentralize energy supply and reduce dependence on the national grid.
Bagaja Renewables’ Vision
Mr. Sadiq Zakari, Managing Director of Bagaja Renewables, guided the lawmakers through the facility, explaining the company’s mission to bridge Nigeria’s energy access gap.
“At Bagaja, our mission is to close the energy access gap through reliable and sustainable infrastructure. The Zawaciki mini-grid demonstrates our vision for transforming Nigeria’s energy landscape,” Zakari said.
The company executive also revealed ongoing projects in Kura-Karfi, Kano, and Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, showcasing the company’s expanding footprint in renewable energy solutions.
