Ibadan and Ibarapa Groups Unite, Submit Memorandum for State Creation to National Assembly
Joint Effort Seeks Long-Awaited Ibadan Statehood
The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) and Ibarapa Consultative Forum have taken a significant step toward realizing the creation of Ibadan State by jointly presenting a memorandum to the National Assembly.
Barrister Ajeniyi Ajewole, President General of CCII, announced this development during a press briefing at Ibadan House on Wednesday, emphasizing the unified stance of various groups from Ibadan and Ibarapa regions.
Strong Case for Statehood
“The creation of Ibadan State is long overdue,” Ajewole stated. “We have all the necessary human resources and capabilities to function as a state. Ibadan boasts numerous professionals, including engineers, and we’re receiving cooperation from Oke-Ogun and Oyo regions.”
The CCII leader confirmed strong support from Ibarapa, noting: “Ibarapa is fully with us. They are supporting the creation of Ibadan State.”
Chieftaincy Law Amendment Applauded
Addressing the recently passed amendment to the Oyo Chieftaincy Law, Ajewole praised the legislative action while appealing to aggrieved lawmakers who reportedly walked out during Tuesday’s plenary session.
“The 10th Assembly has done the right thing with the passage of this bill,” he said. “Their names will be written in history for bringing peace and tranquility to our traditional institutions.”
Ajewole described the amendment as being “based on historical facts, justice, and contemporary realities,” urging dissenting voices to embrace peace.
