FG to Sell 753-Unit Housing Estate Recovered from Emefiele
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has officially taken possession of a 753-unit housing estate previously owned by the embattled former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Government Takes Over Luxury Estate
In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry confirmed the handover of the property, located in the Prestige Cadastral Zone of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The estate, comprising luxury duplexes, was forfeited to the federal government following legal proceedings.
Details of the Housing Project
The recovered estate features:
- 116 four-bedroom semi-detached duplexes
- 18 four-bedroom fully detached duplexes
- 48 units of three-bedroom apartments
- 20 units of two-bedroom apartments
- 551 units of one-bedroom apartments
Plans for Public Sale
The federal government has announced plans to sell the properties to the public through an open and transparent process. The move is part of the administration’s efforts to:
- Recover assets linked to corruption cases
- Increase housing stock for Nigerians
- Generate revenue for national development
Minister’s Statement
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development emphasized that the sale would be conducted fairly, with priority given to first-time homebuyers. “This recovery demonstrates our commitment to accountability and providing affordable housing for citizens,” the minister stated.
