Femi Falana Urges Nigerian Youths to Reclaim the Nation from Older Generation
Human Rights Activist Calls for Youth Empowerment at RISE 2025 Conference
Renowned human rights lawyer and activist Femi Falana has called on Nigerian youths to take back control of the country from the older generation. Speaking at the sixth Annual Youth Leadership Conference, themed Resilience, Innovation, Social Responsibility, and Entrepreneurship (RISE 2025), held at the University of Lagos, Falana emphasized the urgent need for change.
A Nation in Decline
Falana lamented that Nigeria is no longer the prosperous nation it once was, stating that the younger generation is bearing the brunt of its decline. “You will have to challenge those who are in power when you have access to them,” he urged. “Some of those in power today belong to our generation. We didn’t suffer what you are going through. We lived a life of dignity.”
The Lost Promise of Nigeria
He reflected on the unfulfilled potential of Nigeria, saying, “My generation had dreams, genuine dreams, about this country becoming one of the best in the world. We have abundant human and natural resources that should make us a leading country. But what has happened?”
A Call to Action for the Youth
Falana stressed that today’s youth have a pivotal role in reshaping Nigeria’s future. “Your generation has a duty to reclaim the country,” he declared. He also encouraged young Nigerians to draw inspiration from African musicians who promote cultural pride and social consciousness.
