Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Calls on President Tinubu to End Herdsmen Killings in Nigeria
Ejiofor Urges Immediate Action Against Rising Violence
Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, one of the legal representatives for detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has issued a passionate appeal to President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action against the ongoing killings attributed to suspected Fulani militias across Nigeria.
In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, the human rights lawyer described the situation as “unchecked carnage” and called for urgent government intervention to stop the violence.
Wave of Violence Across Multiple States
Ejiofor specifically condemned attacks in Plateau, Benue, Edo, Delta, and Enugu States, characterizing Nigeria’s current security situation as a “grave national tragedy.” He expressed particular concern about how media reports reduce human casualties to mere statistics.
“Each day, new casualty figures are reported by the media, reducing human lives to mere statistics, as though we were counting livestock,” Ejiofor stated.
The lawyer strongly criticized what he called the government’s “complicit silence” in the face of these attacks, emphasizing that behind the numbers are real people – mothers, fathers, children, and breadwinners.
Constitutional Obligations
Ejiofor called on both the federal government and state governors to fulfill their constitutional duty to protect citizens’ lives and property. He described the ongoing violence as both “condemnable and unacceptable,” demanding that “enough must finally be enough.”
The legal practitioner’s statement comes amid growing concerns about security across Nigeria, particularly in regions affected by clashes between farmers and herders.
