APC Chairman Declares NNPP “Dead,” Hints at Kwankwaso’s Return
Ganduje Predicts Opposition Party’s Collapse
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, made a bold declaration on Tuesday, stating that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is politically defunct. He further suggested that the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, might soon return to the APC fold.
Symbolic Burial Imagery
Speaking at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the Tinubu Support Group, Ganduje used striking imagery to describe NNPP’s fate: “The NNPP is dead. And it will soon be buried, very, very soon. The coffin has already been constructed. What remains now is to dig the grave.”
The former Kano State governor emphasized the APC’s readiness to welcome Kwankwaso “back home,” noting the ruling party’s growing appeal amid increasing defections from opposition parties across Nigeria.
2027 Political Realignments
Ganduje’s comments come amid heightened political speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections. While opposition figures have floated the idea of forming a coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the APC chairman dismissed such prospects.
“We have seen this movie before,” Ganduje remarked confidently. “When the time comes, the same people will return to the APC.”
Kwankwaso-APC Reconciliation?
Though Kwankwaso hasn’t publicly confirmed any plans to rejoin the APC, political analysts note the historical relationship between the two Kano politicians. Once close allies, their estrangement before the 2019 elections hasn’t diminished their influence in Northern politics.
Ganduje’s statements suggest potential political realignments that could significantly impact Nigeria’s opposition landscape as the country moves toward the next election cycle.
