Escaped Python From Ex-AGF’s Residence Sparks Panic in Kano Community

KANO, Nigeria – A potentially dangerous situation has unfolded in the densely populated Daneji neighborhood of Kano Municipal Local Government Area after an African rock python escaped from the private residence of a former Accountant General of the Federation.

Community in Fear as Python Remains at Large

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, has left residents living in constant fear as the large snake has yet to be recovered. Local sources confirm the python escaped from the home of former AGF Ahmed Idris, who served under the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Nurulhaq Kabir Muhammad, a concerned resident, told reporters: “Since the python escaped, everyone has been living in fear. All the other animals in the house were evacuated on Tuesday as a precaution.”

Residents Voice Their Concerns

The escape has caused significant disruption to daily life in the community:

  • Parents have restricted children from outdoor play
  • Many residents report difficulty sleeping
  • Local businesses have seen decreased foot traffic

Rabi’u Isma’il, another resident, described the tense atmosphere: “We can’t sleep peacefully knowing that a giant snake is on the loose and hiding somewhere. Many of us have stopped allowing our children to play outside.”

Authorities Respond to the Crisis

The Kano State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident. Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori confirmed:

“We have invited the former AGF regarding maintaining dangerous pets at his home, which has caused tension among residents. He has agreed to surrender all dangerous animals to the state zoology.”

Police have dispatched intelligence units to verify whether the former official has indeed surrendered all his exotic pets and to determine if anyone has been injured by the escaped python.

Emir of Kano Issues Warning

The situation has drawn the attention of traditional authorities, with Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II issuing a stern warning to the former AGF:

“The Emir warned Ahmad Idris that should anything happen to anybody, he will be held responsible,” according to palace sources. This came after residents of Danaji Quarters petitioned the traditional ruler about their safety concerns.

Background on the Former AGF

The incident has brought renewed attention to Ahmed Idris, who previously made headlines for his alleged involvement in a N109 billion corruption case during his tenure as Accountant General. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had previously arrested and arraigned him in connection with the case.

Community Calls for Action

Residents continue to call for swift action from authorities:

Aisha Lawal, a mother of three, expressed the community’s frustration: “This is not just about the snake – it’s about our safety. We need help before something tragic happens.”

Authorities have yet to determine how the python managed to escape or what safety measures failed at the residence. Attempts to reach the former AGF or members of his household for comment were unsuccessful.

Safety Tips Regarding Escaped Pythons

  • Avoid tall grass and dense vegetation
  • Keep children and pets indoors
  • Report any sightings to authorities immediately
  • Do not attempt to capture the snake yourself

As the search continues, the Kano community remains on high alert, hoping for a swift resolution to this dangerous situation.
