Emir Sanusi Commends AGILE for Renovating Over 1,300 Schools in Kano
Royal Endorsement for Girls’ Education Initiative
The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammad Sunusi II, has publicly praised the Adolescent Girls Initiatives for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project for its significant achievements in education reform across Kano State.

Remarkable Educational Progress
During an advocacy visit by the AGILE State Project Implementation Unit (SIPU), the Emir highlighted the project’s accomplishments:
- Re-enrollment of over 30,000 adolescent girls
- Renovation of more than 1,300 schools
- Current enrollment of 100,000 students in learning centers across 23 LGAs
Emirate’s Commitment to Education
The royal leader emphasized the Kano Emirate Council’s dedication to promoting education, particularly for girls. He pledged continued support to ensure:
- Increased enrollment
- Better retention rates
- Smooth transition between educational levels
- Higher completion rates

AGILE’s Comprehensive Approach
Malam Mujtapha Aminu, Kano State AGILE Coordinator, detailed the project’s innovative second chance education program:
- 5,000 learning centers established
- Curriculum includes literacy, numeracy, and entrepreneurship training
- 9-month program leading to Junior Secondary School equivalent certificates
- Opportunities for national examinations (NECO and WAEC)

Monitoring and Community Impact
The Emir expressed particular satisfaction with AGILE’s robust monitoring system, which tracks:
- Grant utilization
- Conditional cash transfers
- Project outcomes
The initiative also includes sports activities as part of its holistic approach to adolescent development, as evidenced by recent AGILE Week Games.
