The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruq Umar-Faruq, has officially removed Iliya Dakaci from his position as village head of Mantau in Yam-Maulu community, Baure Local Government Area. This decisive action comes after residents staged a peaceful protest demanding his removal over alleged involvement in kidnapping activities.

According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Dakaci was arrested eight months ago after his name surfaced in connection with the abduction and rape of philanthropist Sidi Usman-Waziri’s family members. Protesters further accused the deposed leader of directly participating in the 2022 kidnapping of a married woman, Zulaihatu, and her infant child – a case that reportedly involved a N20 million ransom payment.

Emirate’s Firm Stance Against Abuse

Emir Umar-Faruq emphasized the Daura emirate’s zero-tolerance policy toward abuse of citizens. “If anyone feels wronged, even if it’s my own child who is responsible, they should come forward and present their complaint to the emirate,” he stated. “This is an emirate of the people.”

The monarch referenced historical precedents, noting that even Sarki Abdurrahman once imprisoned his own son for wrongdoing. “That is why we will never condone the abuse of anyone,” he added.

Effective immediately, Dakaci has been stripped of his traditional title and responsibilities. The emirate announced plans to appoint a new representative to ensure leadership grounded in justice and integrity.
