ECOWAS Launches Key Regional Workshop to Tackle West Africa’s Food Security Crisis
Experts Gather in Abuja to Address Humanitarian Needs
A pivotal three-day ECOWAS Regional Baseline Consultation Workshop has commenced in Abuja, Nigeria, bringing together disaster management experts, civil protection officials, and monitoring and evaluation specialists from across West Africa. The workshop aims to accelerate the rollout of the ECOWAS Food Security, Nutrition, and Livelihood Humanitarian Assistance Programme, a vital initiative addressing the growing humanitarian needs in the region.
Strengthening Regional Collaboration
With approximately 30 participants from ECOWAS Member States in attendance, the workshop focuses on enhancing collaboration and capacity-building among national agencies to effectively tackle food insecurity, malnutrition, and the socio-economic impacts of crises.
The programme, rooted in a comprehensive and integrated humanitarian strategy, will deliver critical support in key areas including:
- Livelihood assistance
- Food and nutrition security
- Education in emergencies
- Cash-based interventions
- Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services
Building Long-term Resilience
By addressing these interconnected priorities, ECOWAS seeks to offer sustainable, community-centered solutions that not only meet urgent needs but also build long-term resilience among vulnerable populations.
