Ebonyi State Governor Increases Doctors’ Salaries to ₦500,000 Monthly

In a significant move to improve healthcare services, Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has approved a substantial salary increase for medical doctors working in General hospitals across the state. The monthly allowance for newly employed doctors has been raised from ₦150,000 to a minimum of ₦500,000.
Comprehensive Healthcare Revitalization Plan
The governor made this announcement during the launch of a major health activation program, which included:
- Establishment of a Drug Revolving Fund
- Distribution of modern medical equipment to general hospitals
- Approval of ₦10 billion for health facility upgrades
“This event is not just a ceremony, it is a declaration of our administration’s commitment to revitalizing the healthcare system of our dear state,” Governor Nwifuru stated emphatically.
Massive Recruitment of Healthcare Professionals
The state government has recruited 195 new healthcare professionals, including:
- Doctors
- Nurses
- Pharmacists
- Laboratory scientists
These professionals have been deployed to general hospitals across Ebonyi State to improve service delivery and patient care.
Sustainable Healthcare Initiatives
The newly launched Drug Revolving Fund aims to ensure continuous supply of essential medicines at affordable prices, particularly benefiting rural communities. Governor Nwifuru explained:
“The revolving nature of the fund ensures sustainability, transparency, and accountability. We have already achieved over 60% delivery of essential drugs, and the process continues until full coverage is attained.”
Major Investment in Medical Equipment
The state government is distributing modern medical equipment worth over one billion naira, including:
- Hospital beds and mattresses
- Patient monitors
