DSS Operatives Arrest Alleged Bandit During Hajj Pilgrimage Screening in Sokoto

Security Forces Nab Suspected Kidnapper at Airport

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested an alleged notorious bandit and kidnapper during the screening of intending Muslim pilgrims in Sokoto. The suspect, identified as Sani Galadi, was apprehended on Monday at Sultan Abubakar International Airport after DSS operatives tracked his movements.

Second Arrest Within 24 Hours

This arrest follows another high-profile capture just 24 hours earlier, when security forces detained a suspected bandit at the Hajj camp in Abuja. According to sources at the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), the Abuja suspect, Yahaya Zango, has been linked to multiple kidnapping incidents in Abuja and Kogi states.

Increased Security Measures for Pilgrimage

The arrests come as NAHCON completed airlifting intending pilgrims from four states to Saudi Arabia on May 12. A total of 64,188 Nigerians are expected to participate in this year’s pilgrimage. Security agencies have intensified screening processes amid growing security concerns.

Military Bolsters Anti-Terrorism Efforts

The northern region has seen a surge in violent attacks recently, including targeted assaults on military bases. Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa confirmed on Friday that the military has acquired new equipment to strengthen operations against insurgent activities.
