Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa Defect to APC

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and his predecessor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Oborevwori Cites State Development as Key Reason

Governor Oborevwori announced his defection on Wednesday during a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba. He stated that his decision was made in the interest of Delta State’s long-term development.

His spokesman, Festus Ahon, confirmed the move, noting that the governor arrived at the decision after extensive consultations with political stakeholders across the state.

Strategic Political Realignment Ahead of 2027 Elections

Oborevwori, who won the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP, was formally received by senior APC officials. Political analysts view this as a strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mass Defection of Delta PDP Members

Senator James Manager, representing Delta South, confirmed that all PDP members in Delta State, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker of the State Assembly, the state party chairman, and local government chairmen, have defected to the APC.

“All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC,” Senator Manager stated.
