Suspected Boko Haram Attack Yobe Military Brigade, Kill 4 Soldiers
Insurgents Destroy Operational Equipment in Early Morning Raid
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly attack on the 27 Task Force Brigade in Buni Yadi, Gujba LGA of Yobe State on Saturday, killing at least four soldiers and destroying significant military equipment. The assault occurred less than 24 hours after North East governors met in Damaturu to discuss regional security strategies.
Details of the Attack
A security source revealed the terrorists stormed the brigade around 2am through the western direction, overwhelming troops and setting fire to critical military assets. “They ransacked the armory, looted weapons, and burned down artillery, five MRAPs, anti-aircraft carriers, and over 20 Hilux vans,” the source reported.

The Nigerian Army confirmed the attack via its official Facebook page, stating troops were engaged in a “fierce battle” with ISWAP militants at Buni Gari. Additional reports indicate the terrorists used explosives and heavy gunfire during the assault, with some soldiers reportedly beheaded.
Escalating Security Crisis
This marks the sixth military formation attacked between January and April 2025, with previous assaults occurring in Goneri, Wajirko, Sabongari, Izge and Wulgo. Local security experts note five of these bases were strategically positioned around the Tumbuktu triangle within Sambisa Forest.
The attacks have forced many Buni Yadi residents to flee, with the military restricting movement on key roads connecting Yobe to Borno state. This follows another attack two weeks prior in the Chalie area of Buni Yadi that left three soldiers dead.
Government Response
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has called for:
- Increased troop deployments to vulnerable areas
- Additional military hardware including MRAPs and drones
- Sustained operations to prevent terrorist regrouping
Zulum highlighted the success of non-kinetic approaches, noting over 300,000 repentant insurgents have surrendered in the past three years.
Recent Attack Timeline
The article details multiple attacks since January 2025, including:
- January 4: Sabon Gari attack (6 soldiers killed)
- January 26: Malamfatori base assault (commander + 19 soldiers killed)
- March 24: Simultaneous attacks in Wajirko and Wulgo
- April incidents in Izge, Yamtake, and Gwoza
Leadership Concerns
Governor Zulum, the Shehu of Borno, and lawmakers have expressed alarm about the deteriorating security situation, noting that Abadam, Marte, and Guzamala LGAs remain under terrorist control. They emphasized the regional security challenges posed by Borno’s borders with Chad, Cameroon, and Niger.
