Chimamanda Adichie to Headline Inaugural ‘Things Fall Apart Festival’ in Enugu
Celebrating Chinua Achebe’s Legacy Through Art and Culture
Enugu, Nigeria – Acclaimed Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will lead a distinguished group of artists and storytellers at the inaugural ‘Things Fall Apart Festival’ in Enugu on June 29, organizers announced.
The Centre for Memories (CFM), Enugu, revealed in a statement by Executive Director Mazi Iheanyi Igboko that this festival represents an ambitious expansion of the annual Things Fall Apart Day celebrations.
Adichie’s Keynote Address
Adichie, fresh from her global tour promoting her latest novel “Dream Count,” will deliver the keynote address titled “Masculine, Feminine, Human – The Dialogue of Complements in Things Fall Apart.”
“Adichie will explore the ‘Achebean inheritance,’ offering a profound reflection on storytelling, cultural rootedness, and the enduring dialogue between history and identity,” Igboko stated.
Festival Highlights
The week-long cultural immersion (June 29-July 5) will feature:
- Dramatic performances and staged readings
- Salon conversations with cultural thought leaders
- Immersive tech installations
- Art exhibitions
- Essay competitions for students and the public
- Film screenings
- Guided memory walks
Special Appearances
The festival will include a special appearance by actors from the 1987 television adaptation of Things Fall Apart, including Nollywood legend Pete Edochie who famously portrayed Okonkwo.
Iconic Ajofia masquerades, significant figures in Achebe’s novel, will make a grand entrance into the recreated Umuofia village experience at the festival venue.
Call for Participation
Organizers have extended invitations to schools, creatives, literary societies, corporate organizations, businesses, traditional institutions, and the general public to join this celebration of African literary heritage.
The event will take place at the CFM premises in Independence Layout, Enugu.
