Governor Zulum Announces Closure of Muna Camp

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has declared that the Muna Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Maiduguri will be officially closed within the next two weeks. The announcement came during the governor’s early morning inspection visit to the facility on Monday.

Progress in IDP Resettlement

The Muna camp, one of the largest shelters for displaced persons during the peak of Borno’s humanitarian crisis, has already seen about 75% of its inhabitants resettled through government-led initiatives. This closure marks a significant milestone in the state’s recovery efforts.

Fulfilling a Campaign Promise

Governor Zulum had pledged during his first term to close all IDP camps within Maiduguri and surrounding areas. His administration has made substantial progress toward this goal, having already shut down more than twelve formal camps since taking office.

Support for Remaining IDPs

During his visit, Governor Zulum assured the approximately 10,000 remaining displaced persons at Muna camp that the government would provide support to improve their livelihoods before relocation. The state plans to implement sustainable solutions to help these individuals transition successfully back to their communities.
