Borno Governor Zulum Condoles Malam Fatori Residents Over Deadly Boko Haram Attack
State Government Pledges Enhanced Security Measures and Announces Major Resettlement Plan
MAIDUGURI – Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has expressed deep condolences to the residents of Malam Fatori in Abadam Local Government Area following a devastating Boko Haram attack that claimed nine lives and left four others injured.
Government’s Commitment to Security
The governor’s message, delivered by Hon. Sugun Mai Mele, Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to protecting the strategically important border town. “We are here at the instance of His Excellency to assure you that Borno State government and the military will do everything possible to secure Malam Fatori,” the commissioner stated.
Recognizing the community’s vulnerability, authorities announced immediate security enhancements including the deployment of excavators to dig protective trenches around the local government headquarters. These fortifications aim to deter future attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents.
Financial Support for Victims
In a show of solidarity, the government distributed financial assistance to affected families. Each bereaved household received N500,000, while the four injured individuals were granted N250,000 each for medical treatment.
The commissioner issued a stern warning against collaboration with insurgents: “Anyone found working with Boko Haram to harm Malam Fatori residents will face divine consequences through Quranic intervention.”
Major Resettlement Initiative Announced
In a related development, Professor Usman Tar, Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, revealed ambitious plans to resettle an additional 3,000 households in Malam Fatori. This expansion will bring the total number of resettled families to 5,000, building on the 2,000 households already relocated.
Comprehensive Support Package
“The state government is committed to providing necessary security arrangements and resources to ensure these families can rebuild their lives safely,” Professor Tar emphasized during a press briefing. The resettlement program forms part of broader efforts to restore normalcy in areas previously affected by insurgency.
Officials urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, highlighting the community’s crucial role in maintaining security. The delegation included local representatives and elders, demonstrating a united front against terrorism.
This comprehensive response underscores Borno State’s determination to address both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term stability in regions impacted by militant violence.
